A poem inspired by the brilliant performance of the Lionesses at the World Cup
Millions of us keenly tuned in,
A World Cup Final – could we win?
Go for it girls, it’s been far too long,
And Sweet Caroline’s now our favourite song.
We yearned for goals, then they scored one.
A spectacular save, but Spain still won.
Hard to believe you had come so near,
Slumped in our seats, many shed a tear.
Yet there’s still cause for celebration,
You’ve truly inspired the next generation,
A great set of skills and such resilience,
Team play, plus personal brilliance.
It’s clear to all you’re as good as the men,
Win a World Cup? Not if, but when.
That’s why we stand and cheer so loud,
You lionesses have made us proud.
